Opening Night in Whelen Series

Cherry Drive Diversity Whelen AddisFast Cherry's year in Nascar and the Whelen All-American Series and the 64th year at Greenville-Pickens Speedway's opening race started with a crash-filled 50 laps. It finished with Cherry in the Carlo White / Nationwide Insurance / Addis Motorsports Toyota in third. 16 of 23 cars were trashed in an opening lap melee. Michael emerged, with two veterans in the two top spots, Michael Cherry, making his first start at the historic half-mile oval, took third.

Blair Addis and Cherry Featured in St Pete Times

According to the St Pete Times, "Blair Addis has big plans for Valrico native Michael Cherry. NASCAR has high hopes for him, too. Cherry, 19, just wants to race. The other stuff, he said, will sort itself out. The next step in the development of the aspiring Sprint Cup driver began in August with a conversation with Addis, who operates a Late Model stock race team out of Greenville-Pickens (S.C.) Speedway, and will continue today when Cherry is officially announced as a member of NASCAR's Drive for Diversity program for the second time.

Fast Cherry Goes Figure Eight Racing - Lakeland Ledger



Fast Michael Cherry came to Florida for a run in the World Figure Eight Series. The pictures show his wild new Figure Eight Ride. Cherry and his dad had a blast! The Lakeland Ledger reported: "Daytona International Speedway isn't the only Central Florida track packed with auto racing action this week. The World Figure 8 Racing Tour hit Auburndale Speedway today for the Florida Figure 8 Championship. . . . The Florida Figure 8 Championship [was] headlined by NASCAR Drive for Diversity driver Michael Cherry.

Addis Motorsports and Fast Cherry Featured on Nascar.com

Nascar Michael CherryBlair Addis and Michael Cherry met by chance. Cherry, now 19, was moving to Greenville, S.C., from Valrico, Fla., when events were put in motion that now have a chance to have a larger ripple effect on the entire sport. After driving a late model in the Whelen All-American Series at Motor Mile Speedway in Radford, Va., in 2008, Cherry caught the attention of Addis during October's Drive for Diversity Combine in South Boston, Va. Blair Addis says, "He's just a talent. He's mature for his age. He has excellent car control; that's what I first noticed at the Combine in South Boston. And car control is a big issue with me," said Addis, who won the Greenville Pickens Speedway track championship in 2005. "I just feel like if you have car control and you get yourself into a situation, you can get yourself out of it. He really adapted well to the track in South Boston." Read More

Greenville News features Fast Michael Cherry and Greenville Pickens Speedway



Greenville News features Fast Michael Cherry, Greenville Pickens Speedway, Nationwide Mutual Insurance, in partnership with local agent Carlo White, when they announced sponsorship of Cherry in conjunction with the Drive for Diversity initiative. Fast Michael Cherry and car owner Addis Motorsports unveiled the Addis Motorsports No. 34 car, with the number honoring Wendell Scott, the first black racer to win a NASCAR Sprint Cup Series event.

Cherry said, "They've opened up a big door for me," Cherry said. "Now I've got to show them what I'm made of. We're going to try for a championship this year."
