During the Nascar Media Tour in Charlotte, Michael "Fast" Cherry got the nod for his new ride in the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series. His Chevrolet will bear No.34, which the late Wendell Scott used when he became the only African-American to win at NASCAR's highest level on Dec.1, 1963, in Jacksonville.
Michael Cherry of Valrico, Fla., will race in the Whelen All-American Series. Cherry won the 2007 Sportsman Division Championship at Hendry County (Fla.) Speedway with 17 wins and 19 top-fives in 19 starts.
